Outline for certification

It is a compulsory certification performed under
the Japan Electrical Appliance Safety Law,
whose competent authority is the Ministry of Economy,
Trade and Industry (METI), which is purposed to minimize the occurrence of hazards and disturbances by the electrical appliance by regulating the manufacture and sale of electrical appliances, and by promoting the private voluntary activity for the safety insurance of electrical appliance.

1. Specific electrical appliance (SP: Specified Products): 116 items

electric heater (electric toilet seat, heating cabinet, water heater, sauna, and heater)	electric power applied machine and apparatus (pump, massager, and vending machine)	wiring devices (such as switch, breaker, plug, socket outlet, and joint box)

Procedure

NP Product

• business report of target product (Japanese business operator)
• sample test
• mark indication

SP product

• submission of all application forms and samples to the certification authority
• sample test
• factory audit
• issuance of certificate
• transfer of copy of certificate to the Japanese importer
• mark indication

Period for acquisition

For SP product, the test and factory audit are performed simultaneously. About 2 - 3 months

Materials required

SP product: application form, model classification table, manual, main parts list, factory list and questionnaire on factory information, list for inspection equipment of manufacturing factory, marking design, technical Information (such as circuit diagram, electrical rating of part, and other information)
